Victoria Accreditation Statement

Victoria was created through an act of parliament in 1897 and was founded in 1899 as a college affiliated to the University of New Zealand.

Victoria became an autonomous university in 1962, taking the name Victoria University of Wellington. More recently to reflect New Zealand’s bicultural (European and Maori) heritage this was extended to the current full name: Victoria University of Wellington Te Whare Wananga o te Upoko o te Ika a Maui.

Victoria has remained a Degree granting institution fully accredited by the New Zealand government for over 100 years and more recently the New Zealand Qualification Authority (NZQA). Qualifications awarded by Victoria University of Wellington are Internationally recognised and transferable.
