The Faculty offers a wide range of programmes with over 50 majors in subjects as diverse as Art History, Media Studies, Spanish, Theatre, Political Science and Anthropology. The Faculty is the largest at Victoria and provides you with plenty of opportunity to expand your interests and gain knowledge and skills that will prepare you for your future career. The Bachelor of Arts degree is characterised by its flexibility and range of interdisciplinary courses. For example, many students combine their studies in history with courses in art history, classics, politics or pacific studies. Others gain credit from one of our creative writing workshops, complete double majors or combine their BA with degrees from other Faculties.

The Bachelor of Music degree offers majors in History and Literature of Western Music, Classical Performance, Jazz, Composition and Ethnomusicology. The Bachelor of Music is now offered by the New Zealand School of Music a joint venture combining the strengths of Victoria and Massey universities.

Performance staff include principal players of the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra (NZSO), New Zealand String Quartet, and New Zealand Piano Quartet, and leading soloists and recording artists from both jazz and classical disciplines. Students have numerous opportunities to perform and develop their artistry in the wider community. The BMus and BMus (Hons) in Jazz are also available at the Albany Campus of Massey University.

Whether you are an undergraduate or postgraduate student most of your lecturers have national and international research reputations. Their insights and enthusiasm for their subject enlivens their teaching and will assist you to extend your knowledge and ideas.

Our qualifications are recognized internationally which means you can work or study anywhere in the world. For example, recent graduates have received scholarships to study at Cambridge, Harvard and UCLA, others have completed part of their undergraduate studies on exchange at overseas universities. Graduates from Humanities and Social Sciences can be found working a wide variety of careers including art galleries, film companies, business, advertising and policy analysis.
