Victoria has one of New Zealand’s most successful student services networks to help you get the very best out of your time at University. There is support available for all aspects of university life – academic, social, cultural and personal. Many services are run by the Student Services Group.
This includes excellent support in the areas of:
Accommodation
The Accommodation Service at Victoria University can help you to find the accommodation you want while you are studying at Victoria University.
Student Learning Support Service
Student Learning Support offers free workshops and individual assistance in essay writing, study skills, maths and statistics, presentation skills, and exam techniques A free academic preparation programme is also offered for students for whom English is a second language, or those who feel unfamiliar with the New Zealand academic system.
Counselling Service
The Counselling Service offers free, confidential support to assist you with issues affecting your sense of well-being, relationships or learning. One counsellor is specially trained to help international students
Health Service
Victoria’s Student Health Service provides a high standard of quality primary care for all students at Victoria University. The Service has well-qualified and experienced General Practitioners doctors and practice nurses. Student Health also has a psychiatrist, skin specialist and nutritionist available for specialist consultations, and can assist students in applying for special exams facilities and aegrotat consideration during examinations.
International Academic Advisers
All faculties and most schools have an academic advisor to provide support and advice specifically for international students.
Language Learning Centre
The Language Learning Centre have multi-media language learning resources and facilities, including computers and satellite television in several languages.
Career Development & Employment
Careers Advisors offer advice and resources to help you with career decisions.
Disability Support Services
This service can assist you if you have a disability, long-term injury, impairment and/or chronic illness. Support includes note-taking, special examination accommodations, seating in lecture theatres, specialised equipment, personal advocacy, places to rest, and hearing assistance technology.
Student Finance Advisory Service
The Student Finance Advisers help you manage your personal finances by providing confidential budget advice and individual financial plans.
Childcare / Creche
The University Student Creche has trained and experienced staff who provide care and education for pre-school children (from birth to five years) of university students.
Victoria’s Facilitation & Disputes Advisory Service
This service provides confidential support and advice for dispute resolution within the University.
Students’ Association
The Students’ Association is the student representative body at Victoria University. They help students in many ways and funds almost 100 social, sporting, cultural and ethnic clubs.

For immediate personal advice, talk to a Victoria International student advisor. Drop in to Level 2, Rutherford House, Pipitea Campus (Monday to Friday between 10am to 4pm), email vi-advisors@vuw.ac.nz or phone 0-4-463 5350 to make an appointment.
Your tutor or course coordinator may also be able to advise you, particularly on matters affecting your studies.
