Victoria University of Wellington’s Foundation Studies Programme is an intensive eight –month programme designed to give you the academic skills and English language practice that you need to gain entry to university and to succeed in your studies.

As a student in the programme you will benefit from experienced quality teaching to suit your individual needs. You will have a high number of classroom contact hours in an intensive and supportive learning environment. The curriculum will develop your independent learning and critical thinking skills, which will help you to succeed at university.

During the programme you will be well supported by the staff who will ensure that you have an excellent introduction to university study in New Zealand. You will meet individually with your tutor who will help with academic issues. Our Student Advisor is available to help and support you in a wide range of areas.

When you successfully complete the programme you will be awarded the Certificate in Foundation Studies which guarantees you entry to Victoria University of Wellington and is accepted as an entrance qualification by all universities in New Zealand.

You will have the opportunity to be successful academically, to make new friends from other countries as well as New Zealand and to have a great time learning about life in New Zealand.

Victoria’s Foundation Studies Programme is a condensed eight-month programme designed to give you the academic skills and English language practice you need to gain entry to university and to succeed in your studies.

Victoria University’s Foundation Studies Programme offers:
experienced, quality teaching to suit your individual needs
a high number of contact hours in an intensive and supportive learning environment
a curriculum that develops your independent learning skills to help you succeed at university
entry points in March, July or November each year
guaranteed entry to Victoria University of Wellington upon successful completion
Teaching occupies 25 hours per week and in addition you are expected to spend at least 20 hours per week in unsupervised self-study.

You are assigned a tutor, who provides counselling and is available to listen and help with any questions or difficulties you may have.

Successful completion
Students who successfully complete the programme will be awarded a Certificate in Foundation Studies.

To complete the programme successfully, you will need to achieve at least 50% in all six subjects.

Successful completion of the Foundation Programme equates to an English language level of IELTS 6.0, and guarantees entry to Bachelors degree programmes at Victoria University of Wellington (note that very highly specialised programmes such as Music Performance have extra requirements). It also enables you to apply for admission to other New Zealand universities.
